06/27/2021 01:00 AMHenry M. Allain, Jr., of Madison passed away peacefully on June 12, at Hospice in Branford. Henry was born July 11, 1930, in Acushnet, Massachusetts, to his parents, Henry M. Allain, Sr., and Louise LaFlamme.
As a young man, Henry joined the Marine Corps for one year (1949-1950) and was called in for active duty due to the Korean War. He left for Korea in January 1951 and was wounded in action Sept. 11, 1951. He was the recipient of a Purple Heart, Korean War Service Medal, and a Presidential Citation.
Henry worked for Allstate Insurance Company for 35 years and retired in 1997.
He enjoyed many outdoor activities including sailing, horseback riding, biking, and hiking. He also participated in several marathons and triathlons.
Henry and his friend, and fellow veteran, George Smith, formed the Military Honor Guard (sponsored by the Madison American Legion Post 79), which provided full military funeral honors for deceased veterans in the shoreline area. This group is still very active today.
He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Lucille, and his five children, Steven and Linda (Rome) Allain, Marcelle and Mark (Schraer), Michelle and David (Quigley), Eric and Cathy (O’Brien) Allain, Henry and Heather (Jordan) Allain; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and his sister, Marcelle Arruda of Marlboro, Massachusetts. He was predeceased by his parents and six brothers, Maurice, Bertrand, Gerald, John, Robert, and Andre.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
The private burial was held June 26, at West Cemetery in Madison, with full Military Honors.
