Edward R. Griswold, 71, of Moodus passed away unexpectedly at his home June 9, after fighting a courageous battle against cancer since 2017.
Ed grew up in Killingworth and graduated from The Morgan School in 1967 and Eastern Connecticut State College in 1971. He began his teaching career at Regional School District #17, teaching at Killingworth Elementary School, Burr Elementary School, and Killingworth Middle School, retiring in 2010. Ed’s passion in life was his teaching, which he showed every day.
Ed was loved deeply by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him but especially by his wife Eileen. Eileen is forever grateful for the 21 wonderful years they had together, which included many camping trips and times spent around the fire with family members. Ed treasured time with his family.
Ed is survived and will be dearly missed by his loving wife and soulmate Eileen; his mother Lillian Griswold; his daughters, Christine Ahearn (John) and Ashley Griswold; his three stepsons whom he loved as his own, David Kolodziej, Bill Kolodziej, and Rob Kolodziej; his brother Paul Griswold (Debbie); and many nieces and nephews. Ed was predeceased by his father Raymond A. Griswold, Jr.
Ed’s family would like to express its deepest gratitude to the Smilow staff on the 4th and 8th floors for their wonderful care and kindness during his illness.
A celebration of life is being planned for a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Ed’s memory may be made to Smilow Cancer Center, Bladder Cancer Research, 35 Park Street, New Haven 06511.
