Anthony “Tony” John Persutti, 92, beloved husband of Pamela Hyde Persutti, passed away peacefully on Feb. 7 in Williamsburg, Va. Tony was born Nov. 2, 1928, in Ansonia, son of the late Pasquale and Mary (DiDonato) Persutti.
Tony was an angel among us and very special to many people. He is survived by the love of his life, Pamela Hyde Persutti. Married Sept. 8, 1956, together they built their family on the belief and faith in God, a family built on love, loyalty, trust, and respect.
He is survived by sister Josephine Persutti and predeceased by brother Dominic Persutti and sister Santina Persutti.
He leaves behind his beloved sons, Anthony John Persutti, Jr., Stephen Charles Persutti, and Mark Christopher Persutti. He is the much-loved father-in-law to Jamie (Cahill) Persutti, Suzan (Winslow) Persutti, Robin (Haire) Persutti, and Sharon (Schreiber) Persutti.
He also leaves behind his 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, Allison and Marc Pacin (Landon and Cora), Lyndsey and Reza Motarefi (Lila and Isai), Richard and Meghan Persutti (Connor and Vivienne), Katy Persutti, Crystal and Zac MacDonald (Dylan and Mason), and Stephen Persutti (Alex, Gabriella, Sonya).
Tony was a graduate of Quinnipiac College and received his master’s in education at Fairfield University. He was a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces, sergeant first class and served during the Korean War. He was the favorite teacher of many and made a difference in the lives of his students in the Ansonia and East Haddam public school systems.
Tony was a man dedicated to his family, friends, community, and faith. His community service included chairman of Westbrook Board of Education, Democratic Town Committee, and chairman of the Nursing Board and Westbrook Elks Club. At St. Mark’s Church, he was president of Parish Council, soloist, and cantor in the choir. He was also actively involved in the Haitian Exchange Program at St. Mark’s.
Those who frequented St. Mark’s Church will always remember Tony’s beautiful singing voice that brought joy to so many.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 5, at Saint Mark Church, located at 222 McVeagh Road, Westbrook. Interment with full military honors will be held following the funeral Mass, in the Resurrection Cemetery, located on Route 145 in Westbrook.
