Richard E. “Dick” Shaw, 88 of New Port Richey, Florida, passed away peacefully at home with his family in Connecticut on Feb. 10. He was Born in Springfield, Massachusetts on Jan. 4, 1933, son of the late Eugene Shaw and Josephine (Aldrich) Shaw.

Dick was predeceased by his wife Catherine (Marone) Shaw; they resided in Old Lyme for 18 years before moving to New Port Richey and spending summers in Connecticut. He served honorably in the United States Army and earned the rank of corporal and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. Dick worked in carpentry up until his retirement. He was also a volunteer fireman in both Deep River and Clinton.

Dick had a love for camping and spent many years with his wife and family at a campground in Connecticut every summer. Dick looked forward to visits from his children and grandchildren enjoying time at the lake. He also enjoyed the company of friends playing Bingo. Dick had a passion for working in the yard, always keeping the landscape and flowers looking beautiful. He was a man who could never sit still or let anything go unattended; he was always fixing something or making something beautiful. He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots; you would always hear him cheering his teams on. He had a dog named Pepper who was attached at his hip and a cat named Spoofers who appeared only to like him.

Aside from his wife, he was predeceased by his sisters Shirley Booker, Elsie Garrison, and Barbara Lewis; brother Eugene “Buddy” Shaw; his stepson John Annello III; his brother-in-law Ralph J. Marone, Jr.; and his step-grandson Jacob Annello. He leaves behind his sister Carol (Shaw) Siter (Gerald); sisters-in-law Edna Shaw and Mary Fran Lombardi; daughters Beth Smith, Sharlene Negrelli, Shelly Cretella, and Heidi Shaw; stepsons Joe Annello and James Annello; stepdaughter Janine Heser (Bruce); 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and also many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was a man with a big heart, kind soul, and love for his family; he will be forever missed by his loved ones and all who knew him.

A committal service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 24, at the Indian River Cemetery in Clinton. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association (diabetes.org).
