Richard H. Morrow, Sr., 90, of Chester passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Feb. 23 at Gaylord Hospital in Wallingford. He was the beloved husband of Jean (Malcarne) Morrow. Dick was born in Bridgeport on Nov. 21, 1930, the son of Watson S. and Doris G. (Hastings) Morrow.
He grew up in Portland and moved to Deep River for his high school years. Following high school, Dick joined the United States Navy, serving his country with honor during the Korean War. He was the owner of Morrows AMOCO in Deep River. He retired after 37 years as a quality control manager from UARCO Business Forms in Deep River and Lebanon, Pennsylvania. Dick was a longtime member of the Deep River Fire Department, a founding member of the Deep River Ambulance Association, and member and Past Master of Trinity Lodge #43 AF&AM in Deep River, presently Estuary Lodge AF&AM #43 in Old Saybrook. He was an avid golfer and loved to play pinochle and travel, especially enjoying his yearly visits to Cape Cod.
Besides his wife Jean, he leaves his son Richard H. Morrow, Jr., and his wife Lorraine A. Morrow, his stepson Michael Riley, stepdaughter Patricia Riley, and granddaughters Krista D. Farrell (James), Shana J. Monks (Michael), and Ashley Riley. He also leaves his great-grandchildren, Lillian S. Farrell, Abigail G. Farrell, Charlotte F. Farrell, and Hadley L. Monks. Dick was predeceased by his first wife, Lillian Morrow; daughter, Susan Skewes; sister, Shirley (Morrow) Thomas; and brother, Edward Morrow.
A funeral service will be privately held by his family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dick’s name to the Valley Shore Animal Welfare League, 647 Horse Hill Road, Westbrook, CT 06498.
