Frederick A. Johnson, 91, a longtime resident of Guilford, passed away Nov. 11 at Guilford House. Husband of the late Jane DiTiberio Johnson, Frederick was born in Norwood, Massachusetts on March 6, 1929, son of the late Arthur F. Johnson and Jean (McKenna) Johnson.
He was the loving father of Martha Dieli and her husband David Dieli of Madison and Jacqueline Rivero and her husband Martin Rivero of Yarmouth, Massachusetts. He is also survived by his grandchildren Ian Dieli and Elizabeth and husband Cris Teixeira and his sister Elizabeth Johnson. He was predeceased by his brothers Arthur and Ian Johnson and sister Grace Johnson.
Fred proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He later became a teacher and worked in the New Britain public schools for 30 years. He sang in many choral groups. He mostly loved his grandchildren and often commented that moving closer to them was the best thing he ever did. He loved sharing the same birthday as Elizabeth and watching Ian play football. He never missed a game.
Friends are invited to a graveside service at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 27, in State Veteran Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown. COVID-19 guidelines must be followed — social distancing and face masks must be worn.
