Ridgefield, Madison

Joan (Joanne) Wilson, former long-term resident of Ridgefield, passed away on June 5 at the age of 92 in Madison. She was the wife of the late Henry Randolph Wilson, also from Ridgefield, who died in October of 1993.

Born on Friday, May 13, 1927, in Boston, Massachusetts, a daughter of the late Eric W. Ojerholm and Ruth Ahern, Joanne was proud of being a “Marine brat,” as well as a Navy wife. She attended The Garland School in Boston, and then married in 1947. Over the next twenty years she followed her husband, a submariner, establishing the family households in ten different locations, including Hawaii and several cities and towns on the east coast, before Henry retired from the Navy in 1967, when they moved to Old Washington Road in Ridgefield with their five sons. Following the death of her husband she relocated to Mallory Hill Road in Ridgefield, where she met wonderful neighbors who befriended her and helped her immensely.

Joanne was happiest when she was gardening, ice-skating at the rink, playing paddle tennis, golfing, doing volunteer work, swimming, and visiting her family. She also loved to sing and had a beautiful voice. She traveled around the world, seeing Africa, Australia, both the North and South Islands of New Zealand, Hong Kong, and Europe, to name a few of her most memorable destinations.

She is survived by sons Henry Randolph, Jr., and wife Cheri of Pomona and Big Bear, California; Eric and wife Susan of Palmdale, California; Robert and wife Sherry of Rockville, Maryland; Charles and wife Christine of Madison; and Daniel and wife Deborah of Avon. In addition, she is survived by thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her two sisters, Barbara Clark of McLean, Virginia, and Ruth Kent of Chelmsford, Massachusetts, as well as by two brothers, Eric Ojerholm of Newton Center, Massachusetts, and Michael Ojerholm of Waltham, Massachusetts. She is survived by her brother David Ojerholm and his wife Janet of Sydney, Australia.

Joanne’s Memorial Service will be held at Saint Margaret Roman Catholic Church, 24 Academy St., Madison, on Friday, June 28 at 11:00 a.m. A private burial will be held in Ipswich, Massachusetts.
