Robert James Mahoney of Guilford, age 83, passed on April 18 while he was surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
He is survived by his devoted daughter Lynn Mahoney of Guilford, his loving son Robert Mahoney of New York, New York, and his beloved grandson Jesse Buccaro of Branford. He was married to the former Judith Tykel of Guilford who predeceased him.
Robert (Bob) was born in Yonkers, New York, to Joseph and Cecilia Mahoney who, along with his brothers John, Joseph, James, and Thomas Mahoney, predeceased him. He is also survived by a sister, Gerry Travis (Roland) of Southbury, along with many adoring nieces and nephews.
Bob retired after a 35-year career with Consolidated Edison of New York. He served in the US Army, enlisting after volunteering in the National Guard Reserves. Bob loved all things Irish and was a fixture in Guilford. Known for his humorous stories, songs, and jokes as well as his wonderful baked goods, Bob simply loved making people smile.
Family and friends are invited to calling hours on May 10 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St., Guilford. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. George Church, 33 Whitfield St., Guilford, on May 11 at 11 a.m. Burial will be held privately.
