01/23/2019 11:00 PMSally Tracey Cahill, 87, a native of New Haven, passed at her home in Branford, surrounded by her loving family. Sally was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, George. She was the loving mother of her five wonderful children, George J. Cahill, Jr., (Jackie), Kathleen Omicioli (Andy), Robert Cahill (Isabell), Stephen Cahill (Gina), and Michael Cahill (Sandra). She had 18 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, her former daughter-in-law, Linda Cahill, and countless friends. She was the daughter of the late Violet and Erwin Tracey and the sister to Violet, Robert, and Erwin Tracey.
Sally lived in City Point for 50 years, then moved to Pawson Park in Branford. Sally was a volunteer at the Hospital of St. Raphael for more than 20 years. For 14 years she served as a Eucharistic minister at St. John Vianney Church in West Haven, and delivered the host to the sick at the Hospital of St. Raphael. She was a volunteer at the McGivney Cancer Center, yet she always said she received far more than she ever gave.
Sally successfully battled and defeated cancer several times since the early 1980’s. Many wonderful doctors gave her extra time and she thanks them. Her true joy was spending time with her family and always said she had a special relationship with the man upstairs. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Over the past several years as her health was failing, she so truly appreciated visits from friends and family.
She was so appreciative of her caretaker and special friend, Annie, who took such great care of her over her final years, as well as Nicki, Marie, and Melicia who helped so much during her final days, and of course, her faithful dog, Maggie. She was also fortunate to have kind and thoughtful neighbors in Pawson Park who looked after her, and she always remembered her friends from City Point.
