Helen J. Scott, 97, of Old Saybrook, and formerly of Richmond Hill, Queens, New York, passed away on Dec. 10. She was born on Aug. 27, 1921, in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of Anna and Simon Stagniunas.
Helen was the widow of Peter Paul Scott, and was also predeceased by her sisters Anna Adams, Mary Buyokas, and Stella Stagniunas. She is survived by her daughters Barbara Pomfret of Aberdeen, Maryland, and Helen Powers and her husband William of North Salem, New York. She is also survived by grandchildren Michael Pomfret and his wife Michelle Lancaster and their son Max Peter of Seattle, Washington; Lindsey Schweers and her husband Bryce of Aberdeen, Maryland; CJ Powers and his wife Laura of Salt Lake City, Utah; and Damian Powers and his wife Stephanie and their daughter Kelsey Faith of Carmel, New York.
Helen was active in several community groups in Old Saybrook. She was president of the Women’s Club and was an active member of the Old Lyme Historical Society. She with her husband Peter volunteered for the Chamber of Commerce of Old Saybrook and were active in the Westbrook Elks. She was a communicant of St. John Church in Old Saybrook.
Calling Hours will be held on Dec. 16, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Rd., Old Saybrook. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Dec. 17 at 10 a.m. in St. Mark the Evangelist Church, 222 McVeagh Rd., Westbrook. Burial will follow in Cypress Cemetery, Old Saybrook.
