He met his wife Sandy Williams Newell at the Vasa Swedish Park of New Jersey in 1969. They married in Branford in 1972 and lived their entire married life there. They raised their four surviving children in Branford: Kierstin Eraybar of Southington, Karl (Wieke) Newell of Arizona, Erika Newell (Arthur Mendoza) of Florida, and Jon-Erik (Molly) Newell of Clinton.
He also leaves behind his beloved granddaughters Lily and Rosie Newell of Arizona. He is survived by his brother Alan (Patty) Newell of New Jersey and their children; and his cousin Linda (Donald) Kissling of New Jersey and their children.
Glen was born to the late Robert and Helen Newell in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, on Feb. 4, 1949. Glen was predeceased by his son Christopher Newell, his Aunt Ruth and Uncle Frank Millward, and son-in-law Ali Eraybar (7/2/18).
Over the years Glen was a member of the Vasa Order of America, the Wonder Weavers Swedish folkdance group, Boy Scout Troup #421, and the Exchange Club of Branford. He graduated from Yankton College in South Dakota and went on to earn his graduate degree in business from the University of Bridgeport. Prior to his illness he was the owner of Walter E. Williams, LLC, a garage door and operator company originally owned by his late father-in-law Walter Williams.
Prior to his passing he was able to attend the wedding of his son and daughter-in-law Jon-Erik and Molly on June 14, 2018. He then fulfilled his dream of bringing his granddaughters to his adored Cape May, New Jersey, shore where he had lifeguarded in his youth.
A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church in Branford on Sept. 8. In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to be made to Connecticut Hospice of Branford.
