Eileen (Carney) Torrenti, age 78, of Old Saybrook passed away peacefully on June 4 at the Essex Meadows Health Center in Essex. Eileen was the beloved wife of John J. Torrenti, Jr. She was born in the Bronx, New York, on Jan. 18, 1937, the daughter of the late Martin and Margaret Carney.
Eileen was a graduate of Saint Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing in Hoboken, New Jersey. Following her graduation, she was a devoted operating room and emergency room nurse at Misericordia Hospital in New York City. Eileen retired in 1994 from nursing after a career of more than 33 years as a nurse with the Visiting Nurses of the Lower Valley in Centerbrook. She loved to travel, visiting Bermuda many times, and enjoyed trips to Hawaii, Vermont, and Colonial Williamsburg. Eileen also enjoyed traveling to New York City to attend Broadway shows and the opera at The Metropolitan. She especially enjoyed cooking and entertaining for her many friends and family. Eileen will forever be remembered as a kind and gentle person.
Besides her husband John, Eileen leaves her sisters Margaret C. Mannix of Farmington, and Patricia C. Egan of Boston, Massachusetts; and her brother-in-law Richard J. Torrenti and his wife Sharon of Old Lyme, and their sons Matthew and James Torrenti.
Visitation was held at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main St. in Centerbrook on June 7. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on June 8 at Christ the King Church, 1 McCurdy Rd. in Old Lyme. Burial followed in the Riverside Cemetery, Sheffield Street in Old Saybrook. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Eileen’s name to the Visiting Nurses of the Lower Valley Inc., 61 Main St., Ste. #5, Centerbrook, CT 06409, or to the American Parkinson Disease Association, Connecticut Chapter, P.O.
