Emilie Marie Gibson, née Desnoes, died on May 27 at Connecticut Hospice in Branford at the age of 97. Emilie was born on Valentine’s Day, 1921, to Maria Luisa Fernandez and Laurent Pierre Desnoes, who moved to Rockville Centre, New York, in 1917 from Kingston, Jamaica, British West Indies. She lived for 94 years in Rockville Centre and then moved to Connecticut in 2014.
Emilie graduated from St. Agnes Elementary and High Schools. She worked for many years at Lynbrook National Bank, where she met her husband and in later years worked for The Town of Hempstead in the Real Estate Department. She loved time spent with her family, being outdoors, and gardening.
She was predeceased by her husband William (Bill) and her siblings Monica Cantwell, John (Jack) Desnoes, and Herbert Desnoes. She is survived by her daughter Marie Louise and her partner Barbara Derrico, and her son Peter and his partner Patricia Summers; her beloved grandchildren Kyle and Stephanie Gibson; as well as many adored nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Services will be held at Macken’s Mortuary in Rockville Centre, New York, on Sunday, June 3 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Funeral mass will be held at St. Agnes Cathedral in Rockville Centre on Monday June 4 at 10:00 a.m., with burial immediately following at Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury, New York.
