June (Andrus) Beck, a long-time resident of Guilford, passed away peacefully March 7 at Harbor Village in New London. She was the wife of late Richard N.D. Beck. June was born in White Plains, New York, daughter of the late Ronald and Ruth Dorothy (Field) Andrus.
June attended Southern Seminary in Virginia for college, where she was honored as May Queen. After graduation, she worked at LOOK magazine and for Pagano Studio in New York City. Before moving to Guilford, the Becks resided in Old Greenwich and Stamford, and Rancho Palos Verde, California. She was an accomplished pianist and enjoyed painting watercolors; she also enjoyed travel, music, ballet, art, gardening, and sunsets.
She is survived by two daughters, Diane B. Ecker of Ansonia and Deirdre Beck of Guilford, and a son, R. Jonathan Beck of Hawthorne, California. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Terence Ecker of Richmond, Maine; Mellissa K. Gutierrez of Freemont, New Hampshire; Timothy Ecker of Portland, Maine; Nicole Slick of Blythe, California; and Sean Beck of California; along with numerous great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Services are being planned for the near future in Mt. Kensico Cemetery, in Valhalla, New York. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, PO Box 96011, Washington, D.C. 20090-6011.
