Sophia “Sonia” Kocur Thomas, 82, of Wallingford, passed away peacefully on Feb. 7 at the Masonicare Health Care Center, Wallingford, with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of 52 years to the late Raymond J. Thomas.
Sophia, daughter of the late Theodore and Anna Michalko Kocur, was born in Topilnytsia, Ukraine, on Aug. 19, 1935, and immigrated to the United States in 1949 after fleeing communist Russia. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Frances Cabrini Church.
She was the mother of Barbara J. Thomas and her husband William M. Clem; Raymond M. Thomas and his wife Beth; and Patricia Sedaille and her husband Brian. She was the grandmother of Kathryn, Rebecca, and Ross Clem; Grace and Grant Thomas; and Samantha and Jennifer Stewart. She was the sister of Theodore Kocur and Mary Kiciuk. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by seven brothers and sisters.
