Guilford

Susan (Meek) Weady, 74, of Guilford passed away on Sept. 27 at Smilow in Yale-New Haven Hospital after a long illness. Susan was born on Dec. 30, 1942, in New Haven to the late Robert and Dorothy (Norton) Meek. Susan was predeceased by her husband Louis S. Weady.

Susan is survived by her two beloved children, her son David Guthrie and her daughter Deborah and her husband Gregory Rynn; her stepson Matthew and his wife Lois Weady; and her sister Roberta and her husband Robert Crum. She also leaves behind four nieces and nephews, Christopher Weady, Brian Weady, Kimberly Murphy, and Michelle Haynes; and six great-nieces and -nephews, Justin and Brandon Murphy, Stephanie and Scott Weady, and Kaitlyn and Ryan Haynes. She lived a full and complete life and will be deeply missed by all.

Susan graduated from UConn with a degree in nursing in 1964. She began her career as a nurse at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London, advancing to the position of director of nursing. Susan was instrumental in establishing the neonatal intensive care unit. During this time she returned to school and graduated with her master’s degree in 1987.

In 1992 she joined her husband Louis in operating Royal Printing Service. She was active in many community organizations, including the Guilford Foundation, Guilford Agricultural Society, and the Guilford Community Fund. She served on the board of Faulkner’s Light Brigade and was a member of the Mayflower Society. She was a trustee of the St. George Church, a member of the St. George Choir for many years, and an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion. She was also a supporter of the arts and a lover of music, including Orchestra New England. She was passionate about and gave freely of herself to her family, friends, the community and the people of Guilford.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated in St. George Church, 33 Whitfield St., Guilford, on Oct. 5. Friends called on Oct. 4 at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St., Guilford. Burial took place privately in Alder Brook Cemetery, Guilford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Guilford Land Conservation Trust, PO Box 200, Guilford, CT 06437.
