Filippo Fiondella, 77, of North Haven, passed away peacefully on Sept. 21 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Waterbury, with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of 48 years to Maria Abbatiello Fiondella. Filippo was born in Gioia Sannitica, province of Caserta, Italy, on Nov. 8, 1939, and was the son of the late Gennaro and Anninna Viscuso Fiondella.
He worked as an operating engineer for Local #478 for many years until his retirement. Filippo was a member of the St. Sebastian Club in Ansonia, and enjoyed gardening and operating his heavy machine equipment.
He was the father of Anna (Gerald) Salato; the grandfather of Katarina Marie and Angelina Rose Salato; the brother of Angelo Fiondella, Antoinetta Grandetti, Lina Melillo, Pietro Fiondella, and the late Guerino Fiondella;and the brother-in-law of Giovanni Grandetti, Domenico Melillo, Michelina Fiondella, and the late Margharita Fiondella. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
His funeral procession left the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., Sept. 26. Family and friends called before the procession.
