Laurel Yurgiewicz, 75, of East Haven passed away on Aug. 3 at Yale-New Haven Hospital, St. Raphael Campus. She was born Feb. 4, 1942, the daughter of Charles and Helen Yurgiewicz.
Laurel was a teacher at Ferrara Elementary School in East Haven for 34 years, retiring 20 years ago. She graduated magna cum laude from Southern Connecticut State University. She enjoyed crafts, gardening, and her pets. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Pompeii, a former president of the Ladies Guild, and a member of the choir.
She is survived by her sister Beverly Yurgiewicz and her longtime Canadian partner Henri. She was predeceased by longtime friend Fortunato DeLucia.

Calling hours will be held on Aug. 9 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home (Clancy Funeral Home), 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. The funeral procession will assemble at the funeral home on Aug. 10 at 9:30 a.m. and will proceed to a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian burial in Our Lady of Pompeii Catholic Church, 355 Foxon Rd., East Haven, with Committal to follow at All Saints Cemetery, North Haven.
