Leo C. Volpe, 92, of Madison passed away peacefully on the morning of June 10 at Yale-New Haven Hospital, surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Waterbury on July 8, 1924, the son of the late Vincent and Felcia (Tedesco) Volpe.
He attended and graduated from both elementary and high school at Sacred Heart. He also attended and graduated from Quinnipiac College. He proudly served his country during World War II in the US Army. He married Eleanor (DiGirolamo) Volpe in July of 1950 and remained married to her for 62 years until her passing in 2012.
He is survived by his two children, son John and his wife Christine Volpe of Killingworth, and daughter Karen Volpe-Taylor of Madison. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Brooke and Paige Volpe, and Bryan and Marissa Taylor; and his two siblings, brother Vincent R. Volpe of Guilford, and sister Dorothy Solocius of Cleveland, Ohio.
Leo was a jack of all trades and brightened lives wherever he went, whether it was as a radio DJ and newscaster for local radio stations, safety engineer, business owner (Madison Automotive), or actor and musician. Leo was a man of God. A dedicated member of St. Mary’s Church, you would find him every Sunday, dressed in a suit and tie, either singing in the choir or reading on the altar. He was also a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid Yankees fan and passed on the love and passion to many around him. Most importantly, Leo was a family man who would do anything for the ones he loved. The true patriarch of his family, he was the man that everyone would come to for advice, help, or to feel loved.
