01/31/2017 11:00 PMEmilee (Laurie) McDermott Klein of North Haven, formerly of Stony Creek, died after a long, courageous battle with pancreatic cancer on Jan. 31 at the Smilow Cancer Hospital in New Haven. She was the beloved wife of Neal Klein. Emilee was born in New Haven Aug. 24, 1955, daughter of Audrey Atkinson McDermott of Stony Creek and the late Ronald McDermott.
She grew up in Stony Creek and was a 1973 graduate of Branford High School. Emilee was very artistic, and an excellent seamstress who designed and made children’s clothing. She enjoyed tag sales both online and in person. She was a sentimental, generous person with a great sense of humor and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She had a special way of making people feel loved whether or not they ever physically met.
Besides her husband and mother, Emilee is survived by her children Matthew (Tabitha) Opie of North Branford, and Courtney (Michael) Rosenberg of Stony Creek; and her stepsons Garrett (Ryan) Klein of Brooklyn, New York, and Alex (Brittany) Klein of Bayshore, New York. She is also survived by her grandchildren John, Tanner, and Candice Opie, Maxwell and Brynn Rosenberg, and Kennedy and Anderson Klein.
Visiting hours will be Feb. 4 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Christ Congregational, 192 Thimble Island Rd., Stony Creek. Burial will follow in Stony Creek Cemetery.
