01/26/2017 11:00 PMWith great sadness we let you know that Lucy R. Elliot, of Clinton, wife of the late Henry M. Elliot Jr., passed away Wednesday morning.
She was the mother of Henry, Becky, Doug, Josie, Dan, Lucy, Joe, and Mary; mother-in-law of Sarah, Ted, Melanie, Laurie, Charlie, Anne, and Marc; Nana of Eliot and Martine, and Matt, Pete, Jack, Geoff, Katie, Phoebe, Sam, Nate, Lucy, Leo, George, Wally, Hannah, Seth, and Sarah; and great-Nana to Teddy and James; sister-in-law to Jerry and Ginger Elliot, Janet Elliot and Hope Carter; aunt and great-aunt to many nieces and nephews; and dear friend to so many. Mom was a pebble to this earth in that her kindness, wisdom, love, selflessness, and endless grace created a ripple on all those around her, affecting their lives in innumerable ways. One of her great nephews referred to Lucy’s eyes as “wielding a penchant for sparkle that always welcomed and embraced you” in their warm affection. She was always present with you.
Next to the love she held for her family and friends, her gardens were a source of great joy, a joy that she happily shared. If you visited, you very likely would go home with a plant or cutting with instructional care. Killing a plant was never an option. Mom could always be found on Memorial Day in her wonderful floppy gardening hat at the Old Brick Plant Sale...totally in her element. She shared her joy of gardening and incredible botanical knowledge with others through her participation and leadership in Garden Clubs wherever she lived. In addition, mom was very active in the community with many humanitarian and environmental organizations that were close to her heart.
Mom was truly magical. We will miss her presence so very much, but will always cherish all that she gave us.
We will be having a celebration of her life later in the spring when her gardens are in bloom on a date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, we know mom would appreciate contributions to one of her cherished charities: Americares and Clinton Land Trust.
