01/17/2017 11:00 PMJean Moynihan Jacobs, 84, beloved sister, mother, grandmother, and aunt, passed peacefully on Jan. 15 with her family by her side at Hospice in Branford. She is survived by her four daughters, Constance Carson of Tucson, Arizona; Linda Murphy of Hebron; Robin Collins of Meriden; and Cynthia Sweeney of Guilford. She found great joy in her 10 grandchildren who knew her as Gramma “GeeWee,” and adored her 10 great-grandchildren.
Jean grew up in Yalesville, raised her family in Meriden, and most recently resided in Guilford with her daughter Cynthia, son-in-law Ian, and granddaughter Amy. She looked forward to her nightly phone chats and Sunday visits with daughter Robin. Her entire family was involved in her care and everyday life.
Mom recently enjoyed a wonderful reunion visit with her daughter Connie, whom she hadn’t seen in eight years. There were lots of card games and sharing of great memories. She so loved going out for seafood lunches and driving through beautiful Hammonasset Park with her daughter Linda.
She was an avid reader, and frequented the library often, checking out a slew of books for the week. Jean loved to knit. She made such beautiful heartfelt gifts, and taught anyone who wanted to learn. She also dabbled in oil painting, creating lovely pictures that she would send to her grandchildren in Arizona. Jean was an excellent card player; her favorites included gin rummy and cribbage, and she even mastered bridge.
Jean is also survived by her sister Joan Prest of Richmond, Virginia; and brother Alfred “Ted” Moynihan of Cheshire.
Jean offered wisdom, strength, and support to many of her friends. She leaves a legacy of humor, grace, and an unending love of family and friends.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Connecticut Hospice, Branford, and The Guilford Free Library.
Special thanks for all the kindness and compassion from the staff at Hospice, and special thanks to the staff at The Guilford Library.
Please join the family for a celebration of Jean’s life at The Guilford Library on Jan. 28 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.
