Robert J. Shields of East Haven, formerly of Deep River and Branford, died June 13 at Connecticut Hospice. He was the beloved husband of Linda Boynton Shields. Mr. Shields was born in Paterson, New Jersey, on June 26, 1940, son of the late William J. and Agnes Hogan Shields.
He served in the Army National Guard of New Jersey, and was an accountant and comptroller for Gannett Outdoor Advertising, and accountant and business manager at the Pine Orchard Yacht Club until retiring.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his children Robert J. (Polly Cooper) Shields of Gorham, Maine, Timothy W. (Maureen) Shields of Branford, and Adam P. Shields of East Haven; grandchildren Margaret “Maggie” Shields, Sarah Shields, and Timothy W. “TJ” Shields, Jr; his sisters Lorraine Hopf of Florida, and Florence (Raymond) Favreau, Marilyn Nichols, and Evelyn McCoid, all of New Jersey; and Timothy and Robert’s mother Maureen (Clarance) Jones of Madison. He was predeceased by his brother William J. Shields, Jr. Bob is remembered dearly by family and friends for his fun-loving nature.
Friends were invited to a memorial service June 21 at the First Congregational Church of Branford. Burial followed in Branford Center Cemetery. The W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main St., Branford, is in charge of arrangements.
