Jay Dougherty, 73, husband of Donna Dougherty of Madison, passed away unexpectedly on May 3 at their house in Florida. He was born Aug. 3, 1942, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
He attended Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. Jay retired in 2004 after being self-employed and owner of The Boston Sales Group, an independent manufacturers’ rep agency, for 25 years.
Jay was a resident of Madison for almost 40 years. Jay and Donna, married in 1964, recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Jay was a devoted father who cherished time spent with family. He enjoyed working in the yard and garden and spending time with his seven grandchildren. He was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan; enjoyed bocce, model trains, and golfing; and spent most of his time gardening. He volunteered for Meals on Wheels and Holiday Food Baskets. He will be remembered most for his sarcastic wit.
In addition to his wife Donna, he is survived and will be dearly missed by his three sons, Daniel of St. Pete Beach, Florida; Sean, his wife Dana, their son Shane of San Jose, California, and daughter Sarah of Boston, Massachusetts; and Jeff, his wife Melissa, and their three daughters Rachel, Hannah, and Julia of Madison. He will also be missed by his one daughter, Dara Terrio, her husband Peter, and their two sons Michael and Ryan of Madison. Jay’s siblings were Daniel, Sister Carol, Michael, Maureen, Timothy, and Kevin.
Visitation hours will be held May 12, 4 to 7 p.m. at Swan Funeral Home, Madison. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on May 13, 11 a.m., at St. Margaret’s Church. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association.
