03/16/2016 12:00 AMLois Beck Phillips, 78, of Branford, died on March 4 at the Branford Hills Health Care Center after a long illness. She was born in Evansville, Indiana, on July 3, 1937, daughter of Sigmund F. Beck and Lydia (Gherlone) Beck.
She resided in Branford for 34 years after having lived in Old Bridge, New Jersey, for the previous 20 years. She was a graduate of Hamden High School and earned an advanced degree at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. She spent the majority of her work life as a graphic artist. Lois enjoyed the beach and loved collecting sea glass, hiking, dancing, sewing, and painting. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her loving son and daughter-in-law David W. Phillips and Linda A. Phillips; her grandchildren Piper Phillips and Spencer Phillips; her brothers- and sisters-in law, Calvin and Audrey Beck of Northford, and Collis and Lori Beck of Killingworth; her sister Susan Beck of Manalapan, New Jersey; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Eric Phillips, and her sister Nancy (Beck) Wogahn.
A memorial service will be held on March 17 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the W.S. Clancy Funeral Home in Branford. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
