02/10/2016 11:00 PMRaymond Andrew D’Alessio, 85, of Madison died on Feb. 9 in New Haven at Saint Raphael’s Hospital after a brief illness. He was born on Nov. 18, 1931, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the son of Andrew and Carmela (Ruoti) D’Alessio.
Growing up in Pittsburgh, Ray graduated from Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon University) with a degree in mechanical engineering and began a career in the steel industry, which took him from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Muskegon, Michigan, and eventually to Baltimore, Maryland, where he met Patricia, married, and started a family. Contraction in the US Steel industry forced relocations to Easton, Maryland, then to Englishtown, New Jersey, and in 1976, a final relocation to Madison, where he designed, built, and managed the operations of a small steel mill, Yale Steel, in Wallingford. In the later years of his career he was a machinery and inventory appraiser for Citi Bank. After retiring from Citi Bank, Ray continued to be active in the community, volunteering at the Community Dining Room and was very active as a board member at St. Lawrence Church.
He was preceded in death by his sister Marisa (D’Alessio) Valentine, and was the widower of Patricia L. (Denver) D’Alessio, his wife of 39 years. Mr. D’Alessio is survived by his children Kim Blackwell (husband Neal) of Pennington, New Jersey; Keith D’Alessio (wife Jennifer) of Cary, North Carolina; David D’Alessio (wife Diane) of Madison; and Gina D’Alessio (Tony Grasso) of Durham. He is also survived by grandchildren Zachary, Bradford, Patrick, Andy, and Hailey.
