Donald L. Montano, Sr., 80, of North Haven passed away peacefully on Feb. 3 at his home. He was the husband of the late Madeline Rose Posack Montano. Donald was born in New Haven on Dec. 25, 1935, son of the late Vincent “Bull” Montano and Amelia Fappiano Montano.
He served his country faithfully in the US Army during the Korean War and was vice-president of National Lumber. He enjoyed fishing, going to Florida, but most of all spending time with his family whom he love unconditionally, especially his grandchildren.
He was the father of Bernadette Montano; Donald Montano, Jr. (Terri); Vincent Montano (Tina); Regina Cone (Brian); and Jeanine Montano. He was the grandfather of Bryan, Justin, and Joshua Montano, and Henry “Bub” Rodriguez, Jr. He is also survived by his former daughter-in-law Karen Montano, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was predeceased by brothers J. George and Vincent Montano; sisters J. Patricia Schomburg and Carmel “Connie” Slubowski; and son-in-law Henry Rodriguez, Sr.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks and gratitude to Dr. Jacqueline Satchell; the many nurses and doctors at the VAMC, West Haven; Ms. Susan Boudreau; Ms. Lynn Harris; and Ms. Chelsea Sacco and the staff from VNS Inc. of Southern Connecticut; for the excellent care and assistance they provided over the last few years.
His funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., Feb. 8 at 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Barnabas Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment with full military honors will follow in Beaverdale Memorial Park.
