On January 29, 2016, the spirit of George Michael Catrambone was returned to the creator. He was a resident of Old Saybrook and had formerly resided in Old Lyme. George’s 64-year journey began in Newark, New Jersey, on Jan.30, 1951. George was the first child of George and Josephine Catrambone.

George may have been known by his vocation as an architect and developer, but the scope of his vision, gifts, and abilities was boundless. George loved the sea and the water his entire life. Sailing was a joy above most everything else. He was a devoted son and brother, father, husband, and friend. He loved riding his motorcycle and his horse. He was a free spirit and a renaissance man of the highest order. His life was amazing to all who knew him or knew of him. His many friends would all agree that they loved him so because he was such a consummate love himself. He will be missed large by many, of that we are sure. He was an important builder and real estate developer in central New England, but he would always say his most celebrated developments were his children and family, a notion that he frequently shared with pride and enthusiasm.

He is survived by his devoted and loving wife Maria DeMarco; his mother Josephine Catrambone; his three children, Tiare, Michael, and Christina; step-children Marina and Taylor DeMarco; and his sister Gail Kenny and brother-in-law Tom. He was predeceased by his father George M. Catrambone.

We celebrate and remember a life devoted to creation, adventure, faith, family, and love. Let his love of others, and the gifts of the natural world be the blueprint for living an inspired life. George Catrambone was a man of remarkable strength his entire life and that continued until he took his last breath.

Visitation was held on Jan. 31 at the Christ the King Church, 1 McCurdy Rd., Old Lyme. A Funeral Mass took place on Feb. 1 at the Christ the King Church. Burial followed at Duck River Cemetery in Old Lyme. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
