Anne Marie Buikus Winter, 94, of North Branford

Anne Marie Buikus Winter, 94, died Dec. 29, 2015 at Evergreen Woods Health Center, North Branford. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Albert Louis Winter, in 2009, and earlier, by her parents, Mary and Joseph Buikas, of New York.

She was born Jan. 17, 1921, in New York. After serving as an officer in the U.S. Coast Guard in Occupied Japan, she traveled abroad and studied in New Zealand, then returned to New York to finish studies and pursue her career as a librarian with the New York Library System. She and Albert moved to Madison to begin their retirement in 1985, saying Madison was their favorite home for 27 years. She is survived by her sister Ruth Donaldson of Vienna, Virginia, four nieces and one nephew.
