Sr. Mary Dolores of Jesus Crucified (nee Viola Bertha Gross), 85, a Dominican nun at Our Lady of Grace Monastery in North Guilford, died there on Dec. 3. The daughter of the late Daniel and Susan D’Andrea Gross, Sister was born in Providence, Rhode Island, on Aug. 9, 1930.

After graduating from Cranston High School, Sr. Dolores entered the Sisters of Mercy, remaining there for five years. She entered Our Lady of Grace in 1955 and was solemnly professed in 1960. When Our Lady of Grace made a foundation in Kenya, Africa, in 1965, she was one of the sisters on that foundation. Sr. Dolores served her communities as procuratrix, infirmarian, vestiarian, general buyer, and councilor.

Sister is survived by her sisters Mary (Sister Mary Susan, RSM) and Ann (Sister Mary Viola, RSM).

The Funeral Mass will take place Dec. 5 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Our Lady of Grace, North Guilford, followed by burial in the monastery cemetery.
