Julius “Jay” M. Garbero, 98, of North Haven, passed away peacefully on Oct. 22 at the Cheshire Regional Rehab Center. He was the beloved husband of the late Bernice Butler Garbero. Jay was born in New Haven on Jan. 15, 1917, son of the late Prospero and Ernestina Avadano Garbero.
He served his country faithfully in the US Army during WWII. He was a graduate of Bay Path University, and was the owner and operator of the North Haven Cleaners for 64 years; his work ethic astounded and inspired his family and friends.
He was the father of Jill B. Garbero of Miami Beach, Florida, and the late Jay J. Garbero. He was the grandfather of Jay P. Garbero of Wallingford; and the brother-in-law of Robert (Nancy) Butler and Robert Merkle. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his four brothers.
