Helen Barbara Leschinski died Oct. 10. She was born July 15, 1915, in Brooklyn, New York, daughter of Loretta and Anthony Gurynowicz.
She worked in Manhattan as a young woman. Helen married Albert Leschinski June 15, 1940. They soon moved to West Hempstead, Long Island, where they raised two daughters, Denise and Lorene. After the death of her husband Al in 1981, Helen moved to Clinton, where she could be near her daughter Lorene (Dean) Sholl and her two grandsons, Jason and Jeffrey.
While in Connecticut, Helen became an avid golfer at the Clinton Country Club and she had many friends there. Helen enjoyed bowling with her league in Old Saybrook and cards with her friends at her home in Clinton. She enjoyed traveling with friends to China, Poland, Monaco, and other distant places. Helen delighted in square dancing with her friend Roland Lasher (deceased).
Immediate family and friends gathered in Sarasota, Florida, to celebrate Helen’s 100th birthday in July. She moved there in 2014.
She is survived by her daughters Denise Leschinski, Sarasota, Florida, and Lorene Sholl (Mike Getzewich), Madison, and her grandsons Jason Sholl (Dr. Helen Rho), Norfolk, Virginia, and Jeffrey Sholl, Brooklyn, New York. Helen was predeceased by her husband Albert.
She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Clinton. A memorial service will be held there on Saturday, Nov. 21, at 10 a.m. Burial will be private.
