Guilford

Julio Ramirez, 59, of Guilford, passed away on Sept. 4 in Yale-New Haven Hospital after a nine-month bout with cancer. He was born Nov. 17, 1955, in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, to America (Marrero) and Pedro Ernesto Ramirez. He leaves behind his wife Robin (Andreucci) Ramirez and son Raymond Ramirez, whom he loved dearly.

Julio was a machinist by trade and loved his job at Jarvis Products in Middletown. He was a lover of beagles (the only dog he wanted to ever have for a pet). He also loved his toys—cars, motorcycles, and anything he could find to tinker with and (hopefully) fix. Julio had a sense of humor, was never at a loss for words, and spoke frankly.

He is survived by his siblings Iris (Jose) Reyes of Florida; Carmen Cruz (Frank Medina) of Bridgeport; Angel Luis Ramirez (Donna Derecinos) of Milford; Milagros “Millie” (Michael) Sarni of Trumbull; Angel Antonio (Lucille) Ramirez of Monroe; Pedro (Aytxa) Ramirez and Zenaida “Sandy” Sheldon of Georgia; Robert (Norma) Ramirez of Tarrytown, New York; and Maria Ramirez of Florida. He also leaves behind his mother-in-law Dolores Andreucci of Guilford, sister-in-law Toni (Scott) Kirby, and nephew Daniel of New Hampshire. He was predeceased by his mother and father, as well as sisters Lucia Ramirez and Zorida Sanchez, and brothers Jose Ramirez (survived by wife Cecily) and Santos Ramirez. He also leaves behind his life-long best friend Ron Haskins, many adored nieces and nephews, and numerous friends and relatives.

The family would like to thank all of Julio’s caregivers from Yale-New Haven Hospital, VNA Guilford, and Madison House for the exceptional care and support provided over the past months.

Friends were invited to calling hours on Sept. 9 at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St., Guilford. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated in St. George Church, 33 Whitfield St., Guilford, on Sept. 10. Burial was held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Raymond E. Andreucci Scholarship Fund at Notre Dame High School, 24 Ricardo St., West Haven, CT 06516, or the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, 1275 York Ave., New York, NY 10065.
