Killingworth

Claire Denette Trembley, 84, of Killingworth, the widow of Victor Denette and Gerald Trembley, passed quietly away in her sleep on Aug. 16. She was born in South Hadley, Massachusetts, on Dec. 13, 1930, to Juliette and George Guinard.

She is survived by her daughter Louise Denette Luettgens who lived with her; sons Gary Denette of Portsmouth, Virginia, and Michael Denette of Wallingford; and her stepdaughter Susan Goldstein of South Hadley, Massachusetts. She was predeceased by daughter Karen Denette and son Thomas Denette, and her sisters Lorraine Cordes and Jeanette Duval. She was the grandmother of Christine Luettgens of North Providence, Rhode Island, David Luettgens of Providence, Rhode Island, Gary Denette II and Jason Denette, both of Portsmouth, Virginia, and Alec Denette of Wallingford. She had three great-grandchildren and eighteen nieces and nephews.

She was a longtime resident of Guilford, where many people will remember her as their waitress at Chello’s Oyster House. She moved to New Hampshire for 10 years, where she and her late husband Victor owned a used book and gift shop called the Country Couple in Walpole; while there she also waitressed at the Winding Brook Lodge in Keene, New Hampshire. She returned to Guilford as co-owner and waitress of Vic’s Place at Stepstone Hill and many years later at Maple’s in Middlebury. She moved to Killingworth after she retired from 50 years of restaurant service with her second husband.

Friends may call Aug. 20 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St., Guilford. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. George Church, 33 Whitfield St., Guilford, at 10 a.m. on Aug. 21. Burial followed in All Saints Cemetery, North Haven.
