Elsie “Pat” (Simmons) Bombaci of Old Saybrook died peacefully June 30 at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown with her family by her side. She is predeceased by her husband Louis Bombaci, Sr., and two brothers, George and Charlie from England. She was born in Melton, Suffolk, England, in July of 1926 to the late Walter and Harriet (Dermedy) Simmons.
After finishing her education in Melton, Suffolk, England, she was employed by Melton Laundry prior to marrying and moving to America. She met Louis near her home, where he was stationed, in April of 1943. They were married at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Woodbridge, Suffolk, England, in December of 1945. They were married for more than 64 years. She was employed by her husband’s business Bombaci Builders as an administrative assistant. She took much pleasure in raising her family. She was a member of the First Church of Christ in Saybrook (Congregational). She enjoyed knitting, mending, embroidery, baking, and canning.
Elsie is survived by two children, Elizabeth Bombaci West of Ivoryton and Louis Bombaci, Jr., of Quaker Hill; and a son-in-law, William J. West of Niantic. She is also survived by a brother, Arthur Simmons of Melton, Suffolk, England. In addition, she is survived by grandchildren Lisa West Wilder Carideo of Colchester; Kimberly West Howley of East Haddam; Mitchell Stout of San Diego, California; Mathew Bombaci of Kona, Hawaii; and Wyatt Burgoyne of Clinton. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Sierra, Kelsey, Gavin, Jonathon, and Ryder.
