Jupiter, Florida, and Madison

Gary Malcolm Beckwith, 75, of Jupiter, Florida, and longtime Madison resident, died on June 14 in New Haven surrounded by his family. He was born on July 9, 1939, in Meadville, Pennsylvania, the son of George Malcolm and Dorothy Swift Beckwith.

He was the widower of his eternal love Carole Beckwith, married one month shy of 50 years. Gary and Carole had a love only one can dream of. He was forever devoted. “I married for eternity” were his words.

Gary Beckwith retired from TWA Airlines in 1998 after 32 years of service. Gary was first a father, husband, and son, but being a captain in the airlines defined him for many who knew him. He started flying at 13 years of age. He knew precisely what he wanted to do and worked steadily to climb to the top of his class. He prided himself as an instructor pilot, mentoring his contemporaries. Gary was an avid boater and enjoyed retirement watching the parade of boats from his Jupiter, Florida, home. He made many dear friends in Florida during the winter months and enjoyed his retired airman Saturday morning meetings. During the summer Gary returned to his Madison home to his many longtime dear friends.

Mr. Beckwith is survived by his adoring children Scott Beckwith and his wife Annette of Madison, Melissa Ginz and her husband Peter of Guilford, and Glenn Beckwith and his wife Susan of West Granby; his sister Kay Kelly of Sarasota, Florida; grandchildren Henry and Hayden Ginz, and Clark, Sutton, Banks, Brooke, and Gregory Beckwith.
