John F. Peters (Jack), 75, of Guilford, husband of Ann Cretella Peters for 52 years, died on May 17. He was the son of the late Edward M. Peters and Helen (Marge) Peters, born on June 17, 1939.
He was the proud father of John (Jackie Rosa) and Heather (John) Grattan. He was the very proud grandfather of JP, Connor, and Mallory Peters; and Maeve and Shane Grattan. He was predeceased by his son Edward. He is also survived by his brother Edward M. Peters of Guilford, and sisters Teri (Angelo) Ciaburro of North Haven, and Mel (Joe) Del Vecchio of Woodbridge.
Mr. Peters graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1957 and Quinnipiac College in 1963. Jack celebrated a 50-year association with T.M. Byxbee Company, CPAs, retiring as president in 2004, and was currently working as a consultant. He joined the board of directors of the Connecticut Motor Club (AAA) in 1995. In 2008, as chairman, he successfully merged the club into Southern New England AAA. He served as chairman of the Audit and Finance Committee until retiring in May of 2012. He served on the Quinnipiac University Board of Trustees for six years. He was presented with the Distinguished Alumni Award in 1986. He currently served as a member of the University’s Athletic Advisory Board. In addition, he was a member of the Board of Trustees as a member of the Planned Giving Council and as president of the Alumni Board of Governors. He was honored by the Quinnipiack Club in New Haven with a lifetime membership. He served as both president and treasurer of the club. He was a member of the Knights of St. Patrick and past president. He received The Knight’s Man of the Year award and Distinguished Service Award. As a member of the Pine Orchard Yacht and Country Club, Jack was an avid golfer. In April of 1993, Jack had a Hole in One at the Ocean Reef Club, Key Largo, Florida. Jack was a fan of the Red Sox. He especially loved watching his grandchildren participate in baseball, basketball, softball, and soccer.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. George Church, 33 Whitfield St., Guilford, on May 23 at 10 a.m. Friends may call May 22 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St., Guilford. Burial will take place privately. Memorial contributions may be made to The Edward L.
