Killingworth

Raymond A. Griswold Jr., 91, of Killingworth, husband of Lillian L. Griswold, died May 11 at Aaron Manor in Chester. He was born on July 15, 1923, son of Raymond A. and Ruth L. Griswold.

He graduated from Hand High School, Madison, class of 1941. He owned and operated the Killingworth Garage for many years until his retirement. He was a member of the Killingworth Congregational Church and belonged to the Westbrook Elks #1784. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge for more than sixty years and belonged to the American Legion. He served overseas in the Air Force during WWII and was a charter and lifetime member of the Killingworth VFW Post #9920.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lillian; two sons, Edward R. Griswold and his wife Eileen, and Paul S. Griswold and his wife Debra; three granddaughters, Christine L., Ashley L., and Jill M. He was predeceased by his parents as well as sisters Mae Machold and Marion Rich. In earlier years, he was Fire Warden of the Town of Killingworth, director of Clinton National Bank, and on the board of Chester Bank. He lived in Killingworth all of his life and he and Lillian spent a great deal of time at their second home in Goshen, New Hampshire, which they so enjoyed. They also spent many winters in Fort Myers, Florida.

The funeral will be held on May 15 at 10 a.m. at the Killingworth Congregational Church, and burial will immediately follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Killingworth.
