Justine Frances Petela, 63, died on Feb. 27 in Portland, Oregon, surrounded by her immediate family. She was born in New Haven on June 17, 1951, to Frank Petela and Genevieve Tutak Petela. She lived in Portland for the past twenty-five years, where she established a reputation as a creative artist, bookstore owner, and social activist.

To mourn her death and to treasure her life, she leaves Joseph Lipkind of Portland; her twin sister Margaret Petela and Jim Stork of Mexico; siblings Ann Roberts and Richard of Ferndale, California; Michael Petela and Constance of Branford; Joan Pontious and Wendell of Rochester, Vermont, and several aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
