12/14/2014 11:00 PMAileen H. Day, age 99, of Chester, passed away on Dec. 9 at Chesterfields Health and Rehabilitation Center in Chester. She was the beloved wife of the late James H. Day, III, who predeceased her in 1985. Aileen was born in Washington, DC on Sept. 15, 1915, the daughter of Charles Emerson and Martha Cox (Jarvis) Hood.
She was a graduate of the Holton-Arms School in Washington, DC. Aileen was a resident of Chester Village West and a former resident of Old Saybrook, Essex, and Cummaquid, Massachusetts. She was a member of Saint John’s Episcopal Church in Essex, where she served as a chalicist and lector. Aileen was a former longtime member of Grace Episcopal Church in Old Saybrook, where she was an active member of the Altar Guild. She was a member of the Essex Garden Club, the Essex Women’s Club, and the Old Saybrook Garden Club. She loved to travel and was fortunate to have traveled to many major cities throughout the world.
Aileen leaves her daughters Judith D. Potter and her husband Robert of Chester, and Carol Martin Day of Cape Coral, Florida. She is also survived by her niece Virginia Scott of Columbia, Maryland. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her brother James Hood.
Funeral services were held on Dec. 15 at Saint John’s Episcopal Church. Burial followed in the Cypress Cemetery in Old Saybrook.
