08/28/2014 12:00 AMElizabeth “Betty” Young, age 86, of Madison, passed away Aug. 26 at the Madison House in Madison after a long illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Donald Young, and the daughter of the late Frank and Sarah Mooney. Betty was born on May 3, 1928, in New York.
Betty was a graduate of the Katherine Gibbs School in New York, and also earned a BA from New York University. Prior to her retirement, she was employed for 33 years at the Yale University School of Medicine, Department of Epidemiology and Public Health, where she was the assistant director of the Yale Arbovirus Research Unit. She was very involved in politics as a member of the Board of Directors of the Madison League of Women Voters, a member of the Madison Republican Town Committee, and the Madison Women’s Republican Club. She served four terms on the Madison Board of Selectmen. Betty was a past member of the Madison Beach Club and Madison Winter Club.
Betty is survived by her son Brian Young of Madison.
