08/18/2014 12:00 AMAlexander Joseph Kadamus, 99, of Waterford, and formerly of Ellenton, Florida, and Syracuse, New York, died on August 15 at his residence.
He was born on May 17, 1915, in Solvay, New York, the son of Joseph and Helen Kruk Kadamus.
He was the widower of Alice Margaret Kadamus. They were married for 67 years.
Mr. Kadamus was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army with distinction in Europe. For his service he was awarded the Bronze Star. Mr. Kadamus worked for Greyhound Lines as a master mechanic from after the war till his retirement.
He is survived by his children David Kadamus and his wife Pamela of Madison, James Kadamus and his wife Carol of Westerly, Rhode Island, and Crisanne Blackie and her husband Christopher of Old Town, Maine; grandchildren Christopher (Kelly) and Benjamin (Katie) Kadamus, Katie Knote (Alex), Laura Kadamus, Taylor Dolan (Nadya), Erin Kadamus, Lyndsay Dolan, and David Kadamus, Jr., and Alex and Teagan Blackie; and great-grandchildren Elizabeth, Anna, Olivia, and Josephine.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Aug. 21 at 10 a.m. in St. Margaret Church, 24 Academy St., Madison. Calling hours will be held on Aug. 20 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Swan Funeral Home, 825 Boston Post Rd., Madison. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alice M. Kadamus Memorial Scholarship Fund to support graduates of West Hill High School in Syracuse, New York, and others seeking college educations in c/o David Kadamus, 6 Acorn Rd., Madison, CT 06443.
