Jane B. Fitchett, R.D., 90, Madison and Guilford
Jane B. Fitchett, 90, of Guilford, formerly of Madison, died in Connecticut Hospice, Branford, May 31. She was the beloved wife of the late Capt. Charles Lee Fitchett, (Ret. NHPD). She was born on August 16, 1923, in Ansonia, daughter of the late Nino and Celina Benatti.
She was the loving mother of Jane (Stephen) Zito of Guilford and Charlene (Richard) Rohloff of Clinton. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Jason (Amy) Courtmanche of Storrs, Stephen M. Zito of Guilford, and Stephanie Zito and her fiancé Jeremy Waldman of Guilford; two great grandchildren, Cormac and Elsa; and her dearest friend Waltraut Schwarzkopf.
Mrs. Fitchett attended St. Teresa’s College in Winona, Minnesota, UCONN, and graduated from St. Joseph’s, West Hartford; she then interned at St. Raphael’s Hospital. She was the first registered dietitian at St. Raphael’s Hospital, and became director of food and nutrition from 1951 to 1993. She was the oldest living registered dietitian in the State of Connecticut.
She was a member of the American Dietetic Assoc., the Connecticut Dietetic Assoc., the American Society for Hospital Food Service Administration, and the Connecticut Society for Hospital Food Administration. She received the Distinguished Service Award for unique and notable contributions to the hospital of St. Raphael, and the Sister Louise Anthony Award for exemplifying the highest standards of the hospital community. Mrs. Fitchett loved knitting, crocheting, tatting, reading, crossword puzzles, flea markets, Judge Judy, and her many kitties.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on June 4 at 11:30 a.m. in St. George Church, 33 Whitfield St., Guilford. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Peter’s Cemetery, Derby. Friends may call prior to Mass from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St., Guilford.
