Geraldine Agnes (Leech) Quirk, 84, Old Saybrook
Geraldine Agnes (Leech) Quirk, 84, died peacefully May 18 in Madison, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Boston on October 3, 1929.
She is survived by her children Annemarie Quirk Alexa and her husband John of Old Saybrook, Kevin of Milford, Brian of Cheonan, South Korea, and Kathleen Meagher of Vernon; a brother, Gerard Leech and his partner Ethel Toner of Arlington, Massachusetts; five grandchildren, Lauren Alexa Roche and her husband Jerry of Madison, Anthony Volpe of Manchester, Patrick Alexa of Old Saybrook, Geoffrey Meagher of Manchester, and Allison Meagher of South Windsor; and many nieces and nephews.
Deena (Gerry) enjoyed a long career in the travel industry. Prior to starting her family, she flew as a stewardess with United Airlines, based in New York, Chicago, and Cheyenne. She returned to the travel industry when her children were in school and worked as a travel agent for more than 35 years, including 20 years with Travelrama, serving corporate and retail clients and winning numerous sales awards and contests.
Deena travelled extensively throughout Europe, Latin America, East Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, returning often to her favorite destinations London and the south of France. Representing the U.S. travel industry, Deena was hosted by the national tourism ministries of countries, including Malaysia, Indonesia, Tunisia, Israel, Kenya, and Guatemala. She also served several years as treasurer of the Saybrook Village Residents Association. Deena was a dedicated Democrat, a gardener, a passionate, creative lifelong learner, and a caring, compassionate friend to many.
A celebration of her life will be held Sunday, June 29, at 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the community room at Saybrook Village Apartments, 55 Sheffield St., Old Saybrook.
