Betty Jane, 82, of Essex, passed away on April 17 at Imperial Point Hospital in Florida. She was born the daughter of Anthony and Helen Finn on May 21, 1931.

Betty Jane was a graduate of Grace-New Haven Hospital School of Nursing and received her BSN from New York University. Betty Jane owned and operated Pettipaug Manor Convalescent Home in Essex for more than 30 years. She raised her beloved children and became an active participant in the Essex community. She was a proud member of the Soroptimist Society, Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, and the American Heart Association.

After retirement, Betty Jane enjoyed her home in Pompano Beach, Florida. She spent many days walking the beach, swimming, attending movies, and dining with her close friends.

Betty Jane is survived by her children Shelley Russell and her husband Kevin of Old Lyme, Charles V. Cosenza, Jr., and his wife Lisa of Killingworth, and Joyce Cosenza of Ivoryton; beloved grandchildren Kyle, Troy, and Travis Russell, Isabella and Charles III “Chaz” Cosenza, Shannon and Kylie Gates, and Mason Drew.

A memorial service will be held on May 10 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 14 Prospect St., Essex. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
