06/25/2013 01:00 PMThe Reverend Raymond J. Barry, 73, former pastor of Saint Therese Church in Branford, died June 23 in Yale-New Haven Hospital. Born in White Plains, New York on Dec. 20, 1939, Father Barry was the son of the late Arthur L. and Theresa (Munz) Barry. Father Barry was a graduate of St. Bonaventure University and Christ the King Seminary in Olean, New York. He was ordained on May 27, 1965, by the Most Reverend Henry J. O'Brien, Archbishop of Hartford. Father Barry served as Assistant Pastor at the Church of the Incarnation in Wethersfield and Saint Martin de Porres Church in New Haven. Father Barry served as pastor of Saint Martin de Porres Parish in New Haven from Feb. 22, 1977 to June 15, 1981. Father Barry then served as Chaplain at Yale-New Haven Hospital, and was the former Chaplain of the New Haven Fire Department. Father Barry was named Pastor of Saint Therese Church in Branford on June 15, 1994, and served there until retiring in 2006 due to illness.
He is survived by his twin brother Edward Barry of Old Saybrook, his longtime friend Margaret Meglin, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Arthur L. Barry, Jr.
Visiting hours will be Wednesday, June 26 from 4 to 7 p.m., with a parish Mass at 7 p.m. at Saint Therese Church, 105 Leetes Island Road, Branford. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by the Most Reverend Henry J. Mansell, Archbishop of Hartford, on Thursday, June 27 at 11 a.m. in Saint Therese Church. Burial will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in Resurrection Cemetery, Westbrook.
