06/25/2013 12:15 PMMichael P. Prisloe, 93, of Guilford, beloved husband of Esther (Dudley) Prisloe, died at home on June 22. Born in Terryville, he was the middle of three children of the late Paul and Anastasia Prisloe. He was a 1949 graduate of the University of Connecticut where his education was interrupted by service in the United States Army during World War II. He also served two years with United States Army Military Intelligence in the United States-Soviet Joint Commission from 1945 to 1946. He was married to the late Edith (Ford) Prisloe (d. 1956) of Essex. For most of his working career he was employed by the United Illuminating Co. in New Haven where he served as the Director of Area Development and enjoyed many a hamburger across the street at Lou's Lunch.
Personable and gregarious, he was actively involved in many church, civic, and community organizations including the Vestry at Christ Episcopal Church, Rotary International, Meals on Wheels, Guilford's Planning and Zoning Commission, and other volunteer activities. Mike was an avid vegetable gardener and enjoyed trying his luck at fishing with his sons and grandchildren at many locations around town. With a twinkle in his eye he had a zest for life and loved nothing more than conversing with his friends and family.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years Esther; his sons Sandy and wife Deedee of Chester, and Tom and wife Julie of Trumansburg, New York; his grandchildren Annie, Abby, and Will; his great-grandson Bennett; his sister-in-law Muriel; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Irene and brother John.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 27 at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of Guilford, 122 Broad Street, Guilford. Burial will take privately. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Meals on Wheels, 310 State St., Unit 200, Guilford CT 06437 or the Good Will-Hinckley School, 16 Prescott Dr., Hinckley, ME 04944.
