06/25/2013 11:00 AMMichael Curry Scully died June 1 surrounded by his loving family. Born May 25, 1955, Michael was the son of the late William and Margery Scully and grew up in Clinton. He left way before his time, and his many future plans will remain unfulfilled. Mike loved his life, his family, his many friends, and a fine Irish priest that led him back to his church. He leaves behind his beloved wife Joanne Fleck Scully (formerly of Madison), his son Matthew Scully, his daughter Erin Scully and her fiance Jeffrey Baker, and his youngest daughter Megan Curry Scully.
He was lucky enough to have three brothers and two sisters, all older and wiser, Bill, Bob, Kathleen, Peter, and Jane. He was the baby of the family and a joy to them all. Mike graduated from The Morgan School, entered the United States Navy, and then went on to receive degrees from UConn and URI. He began his career in law enforcement following in the footsteps of his father (Manchester) and oldest brother as a police officer in Clinton. There, he was legendary for his not so politically correct cartoons depicting office life. He then decided to try the next step... the FBI. He was accepted and off to Quantico he went. He was assigned to Providence as a Special Agent. The FBI took him all over the world as a teacher and investigator. An integral part of the Boston Evidence Response Team, he traveled to Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Iraq, Jordan, Uzbekistan, and Ukraine. His SA brothers who traveled with him have many, many, grand stories to tell. For those of you who remember the show The X Files, Mike was the real Agent Scully. In the United States he worked on many events including Operation Buck Swap, the Atlanta and Salt Lake City Olympics, the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, TWA 800 disaster, the loss of Egypt Air off the coast of Rhode Island, and the Boston investigations after 9/11. Michael loved the Miami Dolphins, the Boston Red Sox, his Irish heritage, scuba diving and swimming, playing golf, running, teaching Terrorism 101 at Salve Regina University, a Guinness and his many, many, friends and family... but he especially cherished life, his wife and kids, his cats, and his home.
He will be remembered forever in the hearts of those of us who were lucky enough to have known him. Beannacht De' leat Mike Scully!
All funeral services were held in Rhode Island in early June and he is buried in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetary in Exeter, Rhode Island.
