Irma DeFrancesco, 85, Northford


Irma Read DeFrancesco, 85, of Northford died on June 14 at the St. Raphael campus of Yale-New Haven Hospital. She was the beloved wife of 64 years to the late Anthony DeFrancesco, Sr. Born in New Haven on July 17, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Edith Hall Read. She was predeceased by her six older sisters Mildred Ford, Bernice Kniffin, Evelyn (Bauer) Hartigan, Marion Hartigan, Francis Dzonkoski, and Nellie Joseph.

Before becoming a devoted mother to her two children, she was employed by the Southern New England Telephone Company and after her children had grown, worked part time in the cafeteria for the North Branford School System. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, making Sunday dinner for the family, and was also an avid baker. She will be greatly missed by all who lives she has touched.

She is survived by her children Linda O’Brien and her husband Glenn of Colchester, Anthony DeFrancesco Jr. and his wife Denise Moras DeFrancesco of Northford; and her four grandchildren Anthony DeFrancesco III of Los Angeles, Jeffrey DeFrancesco of Northford, Monica Chapman of Stratford, and Jeremy Chapman of Groton.

Her funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, on Monday, June 24 at 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Monica Church at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. The visiting hours will be Sunday, June 23 from 3 to 6 p.m.
