06/25/2013 12:00 PMFlorabel (Smith) Bosworth Babcock, 90, of Deep River died at Middlesex Hospital on June 23 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of the late Russell Bosworth and the late Howard Babcock. She was also predeceased by her sons James and Ronald Bosworth. Born in Chester, she was the daughter of the late Jasper A. and Lilliebelle (Holden) Smith. Florabel was raised and educated in Chester; she worked for various manufacturing companies in the area and retired in January from Whelen Engineering in Chester. She loved crocheting, gardening, and animals.
Florabel is survived by her sister Frances Smith Pearson of Deep River; her daughters-in-law Joanne Bosworth of Old Saybrook and Cher Bosworth of Colorado; her grandchildren James Jr., Stacy and Randy Bosworth as well as five great grandchildren; her nieces Sharon Netsch, Barbara Earles, and Laurie Smith; her nephews Robert Smith, Richard and William Grote, Jarvis and Wayne Smith, Philip and Robert Pearson, as well as many great nieces and nephews. She also leaves her sister-in-law Elaine Smith of East Haddam. She was also predeceased by her brothers Jarvis and Philip Smith and her sisters Louisa Smith and Constance Grote.
Graveside services will be held at Centerbrook Cemetery on Wednesday, June 26 at 11 a.m. Donations may be made in Florabel?s name to the Estuary Council, 220 Main St., Old Saybrook CT 06475 or to Middlesex Hospital Hospice, 28 Crescent St., Middletown, CT 06457.
